Disposable Diaper Buying Guide
When it comes to changing time, disposable diapers are quick and manageable for you while also being comfortable for your baby.
What to consider
Absorbency
Diapers have different absorbency levels based on your babies needs and whether they are to be used during the day or night. Choose higher absorbency diapers for the nighttime and as babies get older, as they have bigger bladders. For newborn babies who often require changing, lower absorbency diapers work well.
Fit
Sizing is based on age and weight and is crucial in order to prevent leakage. Look for tightness around legs to prevent heatburn or rashes and ensure breathability. Check the diaper is snug at the waist and just under the belly button.
Softness
Harsh diapers may cause rashes, discomfort, or inflexibility. Check to see that diaper is thin and soft to touch, not grainy. Often diapers have a top, cotton-like layer.
Sensitivity
Almost all disposable diapers use chemicals to increase absorbency. Different babies react differently to these chemicals so it is best to try a variety of diapers before deciding on one.
Style
Tape diapers need to be wrapped and secured around the baby while pant diapers can be pulled up. Tape diapers are better for younger babies, as they can be adjusted to fit better and easily changed. Pant diapers are better once your baby starts walking as they allow for movement and greater absorption, lasting longer. Once your baby is at size M or higher, try pant diapers!
Wetness Indicator
When your baby urinates, wetness indicators change colors indicating the need for a change. This can be useful for first-time parents in preventing unnecessary changing due to false alarms!

Tips
- Buy in bulk online or at baby fairs
- Try different brands first to see which one works best for your baby. Don't buy a particular brand in bulk before your baby is born, in case the brand does not work for them.
- If you notice a lot of leakage, consider changing the diaper to a larger size.
- Check out diaper pail guide (https://mykinderpass.com/parenting-tips/Diaper-Pail-Buying-Guide) for information on how to easily dispose diapers
- Choose more absorbent diapers for the night
- As your baby grows, switch to different diaper styles (pull-up, etc) with more movement and absorption
