Child Developement
How to develop emotional skills in babies
Transitions can be difficult for children. Creating goodbye traditions reassures children and makes them feel safe. Start a new "goodbye" tradition. For instance, before you leave for work or before dropping them off at day care or grandmom's place, create a story that ends in a catchy phrase, e.g. “See you in a while, crocodile” or “See you soon, cocoon.” Tell them that once the story finishes, you will leave but that you will seem them later. Toddlers find it tough to deal with transitions and a predictable routine with some familliar phrases or a story can help provide reassurance, comfort and a degree of control.
