Activity: Memory Master
A lot of us find making our children sit down in one place and focus on a single job a Herculean task. Developing sitting tolerance and attention span to increase engagement in an activity are important skills children need to develop as they grow older and get ready for school. It’s all the more reason to engage in games and activities that require them to stop, focus, think, plan and remember. Using games to help children develop these skills makes it a fun way to learn and improve.
Memory games do exactly that! They are fun and challenging for young children and stretch their brains to improve attention spans, focus, short-term memory and recall. So let’s challenge ourselves and play in groups of 2 or more.
Things You Will Need
- Thick paper or Cardboard
- Scissors/ Cutter
- Markers
- Matchsticks/ Thread/ Glitter Glue
- Glue

While you follow the activity, ensure you focus on
- Language Skills: Vocabulary - match, flip
- Fine Motor: Flipping cards (Wrist motion & Pincer grip)
- Social Skills: Turn taking, Group play
- Life skills: Concentration and focus
- Cognitive skills: Short-term memory and Recall, Spatial positioning
- Sensory: Tactile perception

Activity Adaptation & Variations
For children with low vision
Use high contrast colours in your drawings
For children with blindness
For matching shapes, tactile your graphics. There are various ways of doing this. One way to do this is by using matchsticks, which is detailed out in the activity video.
You can also use this activity as a good tactile-discrimination practice by using different textures, instead of shapes on the cards.
